I am excited to share this recipe, as i have been making hummus for a few years now, and i have found the secret... ICE CUBES! Sounds interesting, right? well trust me it works.
There are other secrets to crafting amazing hummus as well - soaking the chickpeas overnight or for 12 hours.
I don't encourage people to buy canned beans or canned food for many reasons....
The inner layer of the can is made of plastic (BPA or BPS) an endocrine disrupting compound that gets stored in fat cells. these prevent the body from reaching hormonal and mental balance.
The cans are made of aluminum, and aluminum leaks! For those who aren't familiar to what that is it, it is a neurotoxin. Accumulation of heavy metals make us susceptible to electromagnetic pollution (EMF), and they create dysfunction in our thinking process. Aluminum has been linked to autism, Alzhiemers, and other diseases. It essentially short circuits our neurons, creating unformed thought processes and ADD like symptoms.
In other words, best to be avoided. The only solution is to buy organic garbanzo/chickpeas, soaking and cooking them yourself. A little hack, Adding a tsp of baking soda during the cooking process helps soften the beans.
The reason why we soak beans is because of Phytic Acid. To learn more about this i recommend reading this article https://www.westonaprice.org/health-topics/vegetarianism-and-plant-foods/living-with-phytic-acid/
Good read if you consume a lot of nuts, seeds, grains and legumes.
I love hummus! And I truly enjoy making it as well because you can play with the flavors, by adding different spices, or adding some cooked beetroots to make it pink. It becomes a sensational art piece.
